CURE FOR ADDICTION

A cure is something that is applied or taken by a patient to alleviate any disease or illness. Drug addiction as a form of illness, requires a potent cure. Before, people only believe that mere counseling or detox can cure the illness. The fact is if there are no treatments medications, people who underwent to detox will be most likely to relapse like those who just abstained. There are no guaranteed effects. Drugs are made up of chemicals and they alter the brain processes. Once the drugs are eliminated from the body, it is necessary to rehabilitate the brain process and cure it to curb cravings and prevent relapses. Depending on the phase of medication, different treatment drugs are used.

For those who had opioid, the most effective medications are buprenorphrine, methadone and naltrexone. The prior two are used since they effectively targets the regions once populated by morphine and heroin and what they do is relieve the desire for the drugs and suppress these craving episodes. The latter one, Naltrexone works differently as it blocks the effect of the opioid on the sites of eh receptors. This is used only to those patients who have already been detoxified. This drug, however, has some compliance issues and is not as widely used as the prior two.

When it comes to stimulant and cannabis cures, currently, medications are still in the works but there is great hope that effective medications will be created soon to help people with stimulants and marijuana abuse to effectively and more securely venture to sober life without the worries and stress of relapsing. Those with multiple drug abuse will be a more complex issue. All the drugs used will have a particular medication. This is to ensure that the brain has a defense preventing these particular drugs from altering the brain processes.

There are some medications like psychotic drugs that are very much difficult to address. It is highly suggested for the individual not to abruptly cut the levels as it will cause fatal effects. Asking the help of doctors for the right cure for such drugs is necessary to prevent worse conditions.

The cure for addiction is starting to expand and the research for more potent methods of treating the disease is necessary. Keeping an open mind about it and understanding the science behind addiction will help patients and others to recognize the need of cures to replenish the brain to proper function.
