CLUB DRUGS
The term club drugs is a category of recreational drugs that people have come to associate with the 70s disco scene, the night club scene of the 80s, the raves, parties and dance parties up to the 2000s. Unlike categories like the opiates that are established based on the pharmaceutical aspects, the club drugs are categories of convenience like the ecstasy and poppers. It also includes stimulants, and hallucinogens like cocaine and LSD, respectively. Dancers on clubs use these drugs for the psychedelic effect that they get.
Drugs like ecstasy, ketamine, amphetamines do not act mainly as stimulants and thus they are commonly referred to as club drugs. Poppers are a combination of butyl, amyl as well as isobutyl nitrite that are inhaled for intoxicating effects. These drugs became very popular in the 70s in the UK and have shifted to the club scene in the 80s and 90s. Depending on the region, the club drugs vary. In Delaware, heroin and other potent drugs are sold mainly to young clubbers. In New York, MDMA, and Ketamine as well as LSD and heroin can be sold. Ketamine has a long history and it has been used in clubs pretty much when the trend started. The drug can create a dissociative state, meaning the mind and senses are detached to the physical body, a feeling of depersonalization and hyper reality happens.
Even if they are called club drugs, there are no correlations whatsoever to actual patterns of usage. One example is alcohol. It is not included on the club drugs category even if it is sold more than the drugs themselves. Another term is the party pills in congruence to club drugs but they are different aspects on their own. They are less restricted but those who approved this legality are always on fire for allowing the use of drugs in less restrictive access.
Club drugs can vary in effects but most definitively there is elevated euphoric state with the use of such drugs. They do not act as stimulants and are mainly used for hallucinogenic purposes; they vary in aspects of physical addiction. Ecstasy usage can develop tolerance and that means people use more to get the same level of high. That is why drugs like these are concocted as cocktails with other drugs for intensified results. However, side effects can also lead to adverse effects. The side effects are more on the nervous system but profuse and careless usage can lead to heart problems and ultimately to a more severe condition.
